Strawberry Time!

Ready Picked and PYO NOW AVAILABLE!!

firefox They've started cropping and are now for sale (freshly picked every day) in our farm shop.

We have also now got our PYO strawberries on the go, we are only going to have strawberries available this year and the season is likely to be short but very sweet so if you want to catch them at their best its a good idea to come early! (and not normally on a Monday!!)

We grow quite a few different varieties that will now crop until early September. We try and grow varieties for their taste and texture rather than their shelf life. You would struggle to find a better tasting strawberry!

Did you know...?

  • Strawberries are not berries, but the large receptacle of a flower. It is the seeds that are actually the 'fruits'
  • 1 portion = 7 strawberries
  • Strawberries are high in magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, zinc, folic acid and ellagic acid, they also contain powerful anti-oxidants which have anti-inflamatory properties!

Wild Fig Vineyard

(You'll just need to wait a couple of years!)

firefox

We have just finished planting our first area of vines - they will take several years to establish but by 2013 we should be selling our very own wine in our farm deli!

We have planted several varieties so we should be able to produce white, rose and sparkling wines. We are going to be growing some vines under polytunnels - this will enable us to grow varieties that can be a bit sensitive to British weather conditions but which will hopefully add some lovely character to our wines.
